How to Style a Silk Scarf: Summer 2026 Edition

A silk scarf is the only thing you own that can moonlight as a belt, a skirt, a top, and a headscarf — and still spend most of its life balled up at the back of a drawer, profoundly unfulfilled. This summer, let’s put it to work. And it has rarely been a better time to bother: the scarf is everywhere this season, and the one you keep reaching for can do the work of a whole shelf of accessories. Most of what follows assumes silk, though nearly all of it works in a cotton bandana too — I’ll point out where the fabric changes the rules. We’ll open with the newest trick of the season and wind back to...

How to Balance Your Figure Into an Hourglass (As Close As Your Body Will Allow)

Not everyone is born with hourglass proportions — but almost anyone can dress into them. The hourglass is a body shape, yes — and those who have it naturally hit the genetic jackpot of proportional symmetry. But the principle behind it? That’s just geometry. Shoulders and hips reading at roughly equal width, with the waist sitting visibly narrower between them. Three elements in alignment. And every body type is a starting point — not a verdict. She makes the rest of us look like we're trying too hard, except when she makes us look like we're not trying at all. Both? How does that even work? Monday, I kid you not, she shows up dressed like she's in a Tim Burton movie. All this black, these layers, shoulders that look architectural. Cut to Thursday and she's wearing—I'm pretty sure this is true—your grandmother's cardigan. Those wooden toggle buttons and everything. And it works because of course it does. Oh, and she'll walk into meetings...

I Couldn't Stop Looking at This Outfit Until I Figured Out Why

Look at this picture. Really look at it. Heavy wool coat, proper and structured. Sheer white crochet dress underneath, literally see-through. Winter boots grounding the whole thing. Your brain just short-circuited, didn't it? Mine did too when I first saw it. I couldn't scroll past. The image lodged itself in my mind because something about it felt fundamentally wrong — and that wrongness is exactly what makes it impossible to ignore.
